Make sure that the Write Protect switch on the Memory Stick is not set to LOCK.

If this error message still displays, this suggests that you have formatted the Memory Stick with the computer using the Windows Explorer Format function: re-format the Memory Stick with your camera or use the the device it is used for the MS formatter tool.
